Attic Restoration

Something in the attic? Have animals turned your attic into their shelter, nesting site and/or breeding ground? If you suspect this to be the case, it is absolutely critical to have your attic professionally inspected. If the issue is not addressed, this wildlife invasion can have serious implications on the health of your home, attic, family and pets.

Dangers of leaving your attic untreated. There are many different types of nuisance wildlife that will invade attic spaces, including but not limited to raccoons, squirrels, rats, bats and opossums. Each animal presents their own set of problems with damage and contamination. However, even after the wildlife is removed, all animals will leave behind feces, urine, pheromones, parasites, roundworms, etc.

Importantly, animal waste can carry a number of zoonotic diseases, which can cause serious infections in humans. For example, animal feces can cause bacterial diseases such as Campylobacter, Salmonella, and Leptospira infections; all of which can result in a range serious symptoms in humans, such as high fever, pain, and inflammatory responses such as severe gastrointestinal symptoms. The droppings of raccoons can contain raccoon roundworm (Baylisascaris procyonis & B. columnaris).  This parasitic worm can infect humans and other animals after egg spores in the raccoon droppings become airborne; thus, people can breathe them in and become infected. Infection of humans can lead to larval parasite migration to the central nervous system.

As reported by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), “This roundworm can infect people as well as a variety of other animals, including dogs. Human infections are rare, but can be severe if the parasites invade the eye (ocular larva migrans), organs (visceral larva migrans) or the brain (neural larva migrans).” Therefore, the remnants from wildlife in your attic can have serious implications on the health of your home, attic, pets, and most importantly, your family.

Decontamination procedures. Our attic decontamination procedure starts with our attic treatment and attic cleansing service. Our crew will remove any nesting sites, trash/debris and latrines throughout your attic’s contaminated insulation. Following this, we use a HEPA filter vacuum to remove any rodent or animal feces from the hard surfaces of your attic. These areas typically include attic decking, HVAC and storage areas.

Once these steps have been completed we will then remove all insulation and replace with brand new insulation, thereby eliminating harmful effects of the feces and urine breaking down and foul odors emitted by the urine and feces in your attic. This will also purge your attic of the pheromones that attract the animal(s) back to your home.

We strive to create a healthy environment for your home, family and pets, and we will make sure that your attic decontamination needs are met.
